What is Real Time Ultrasound?
Real Time Ultrasound is a safe and non-invasive tool to allow you and your therapist to directly and immediately view your ability to specificially contract your "core stabilizers," as well as other muscles of the body. The "core" stabilizers include the transverse abdominis, the pelvic floor muscles, and the deep fibers of the multifidi. When back pain, injury or surgical intervention occurs, research has found that these muscles turn off or fire out of sequence. This causes changes in your movement and support patterns. These changes have been linked to loss of function, pain and the increase frequency of re-injury and resultant surgery. Restoring these muscles to prior injury or surgery status has been proven to decrease re-injury, pain, medication use and surgeries by over 50%! Until recently, these units were used only in research centers.
